    Lewis Theobald was born to Peter Theobald (d. 1690), an attorney, and his second wife, Mary, in Sittingbourne, Kent.

    When Theobald's father died in 1690, he was taken into the family of his godfather Lewis Watson, third Baron Rockingham.

  • Death

    Theobald died of jaundice at his house in Wyan's Court, Great Russell Street, attended only by his friend of thirty years, John Stede. He was interred at Pancras on the 20th, at 6 o'clock pm.
