The cottage on the right side of the road was formerly home to writer and politician Richard Steele, a member of the Whig Kit Cat Club and founder of the journal The Tatler (1709), and, with Joseph Addison, The Spectator (1711), and The Guardian (1713).
On the left side of the street is the Load of Hay, a public house which was a stopping point for travellers to and from Hampstead Heath and London (ca. 1790s–1966).
