Lewis Theobald is born to Mary, second wife to Peter Theobald (d. 1690), an attorney, in Sittingbourne, Kent.
When Theobald's father dies in 1690, he is taken into the family of his godfather Lewis Watson, third Baron Rockingham.
Theobald dies of jaundice at his house in Wyan's Court attended only by his friend of thirty years, John Stede. He is interred at Pancras on the 20th, at 6 o'clock pm.
