A translation of: Alemán, Mateo. Aventuras y vida de Guzmán de Alfarache, which was originally published in two parts as Primera [Segunda] Parte de Guzman de Alfarache.

Translator's dedication (in Spanish) signed: Don Diego Puede--Ser, i.e. James Mabbe.

In Mabbe's Second part passages occur which are only to be found in Barezzo Barezzi's Italian translation--cf. James Fitzmaurice-Kelly's introduction to The rogue, 1924 (The Tudor translations, 2nd series).

A reissue of STC 291 Part 1 with a cancel titlepage which omits reference to Calisto and Melibea.
