Note
A translation of: Alemán, Mateo. Aventuras y vida de Guzmán de Alfarache, which was originally published as Primera [Segunda] Parte de Guzman de Alfarache.

Translator's dedication (in Spanish) signed: Don Diego Puede--Ser, i.e. James Mabbe.

In Mabbe's Second part passages occur which are only to be found in Barezzo Barezzi's Italian translation--cf. James Fitzmaurice-Kelly's introduction to The rogue, 1924 (The Tudor translations, 2nd series).

The words "To which is added ..." on title page of Huntington copy 93569 are mutilated as if a label had been attached and later removed. Cf. STC 291.5, which has cancel title page omitting these words.
