Begun as a periodical publication by H. Oldenburg in 1665 and continued by him to June 1677, afterwards successively edited by N. Grew, R. Plot, W. Musgrave, R. Waller, Sir H. Sloane, E. Halley, and C. Mortimer, up to March 1752, from which date the publication has been superintended by a committee of the Society
Vols. 41, 48-52, 57, 61 and all after 62 are each in two parts, except vol. 90 which is in 3 parts

Printed by Samuel Richardson from v.XLI (1744) through v.LI (1761), as well as part of v.LII pt.1 (1762), interrupted by his death
Printed by William Bowyer, beginning with the completion of v.LII pt.1 (1762), and continuing through v.LXVII pt. 1 (1777), latterly with his partner John Nichols, who continued to print them after Bowyer's death.
