First published at London in 1740. Attributed to Robert Dodsley in the New Cambridge bibliography of English literature. Sometimes attributed to Philip Dormer Stanhope. Most editions have the fictitious attribution to Nathan ben Saddi on the title page; Evans notes that this is the only edition attributed to Franklin. It is not known who brought the history forward into George III's reign.
